Greenwood, S.C.; February 8, 2018 – Eighth Circuit Solicitor David M. Stumbo announced Thursday that a 28-year-old Greenwood man will be spending the next 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a young girl.
Tremaine Vantrell Daniels pleaded guilty Wednesday afternoon to two counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Circuit Judge Frank Addy Jr. accepted the pleas and sentenced Daniels to 18 years in prison to be followed by 18 months of probation.
Over the course of the summer of 2013, Daniels would force the victim to perform sexual acts with him and threatened her with the “worst butt-whooping of her life” if she told anyone. The victim told her teacher about the incidents and the teacher notified Department of Social Services.
Anna Sumner handled the case for the state with assistance from 8th Circuit Investigator Windy Chappell and Victim Advocates Mary Ann Stroup and Sarah Parris. Daniels was represented by Charles Grose of the Greenwood County Bar.
Solicitor Stumbo praised the tireless work of his staff along with investigators with the Greenwood Police Department in securing the conviction.
“We will continue to be relentless in the pursuit of justice for children in this community who have their innocence ripped away by sexual predators,” Solicitor Stumbo said. “It is my prayer that this conviction and sentence will allow this brave young lady, who was senselessly victimized by Tremaine Daniels, some measure of peace and closure moving forward.”
